You have read so many books, looked at countless websites, and heard dozens of opinions from family and friends. So what do you do now to help your child sleep better? There’s an abundance of information available about children’s sleep and we as parents are often faced with ‘information overload’.
Each child is unique and special. A similar sleep problem can affect different children in different ways. It is therefore essential that each child and each sleep problem is addressed on an individual basis.
At The Sleep Works, we take great care to provide parents with a personalised sleep plan with which they’re happy and comfortable, to help them get their child’s sleep on track. The plan includes a guide to how much sleep your child needs, tweaks to the time framework of your child’s day if necessary, strategies for coping with the sleep problems – including specific tips and suggestions to help support the process – and a clear and comprehensive step-by-step sleep plan.
As sleep consultants, we’re often asked our thoughts on the ‘cry it out’ or controlled crying method. We believe each family’s preferences and requirements are different when it comes to sleep training, and what works for one family does not necessarily work for another. So during the consultation we spend time discussing the different options for sleep training approaches and finding the one that feels right for you as a family. A successful outcome can only be achieved when you are comfortable with the process employed to help your child.
Sleep problems can occur at any stage of childhood (and beyond!), but through support, understanding and guidance, we work with parents to give them the tools to help their child – and indeed themselves – get the sleep they all need.
